Proper preparation is the single most important factor in getting great real estate photos. Even the best photographer can’t make a cluttered, poorly lit home look its best. Here’s our complete guide to preparing your listing for a professional photo shoot.
Declutter Every Room
Remove personal items, excess furniture, and anything that doesn’t contribute to the story of the home. Buyers want to imagine themselves in the space, not be distracted by the current owner’s belongings. Clear countertops, remove items from floors, and minimize decorative objects.
Light It Up
Turn on every light in the house — overhead lights, lamps, under-cabinet lighting, and even closet lights. Open all blinds and curtains to maximize natural light. Our photographers use HDR techniques to balance interior and exterior light, but the more light you provide, the better the results.
Clean Everything
Clean windows, mirrors, and reflective surfaces are critical. Dirty windows can ruin otherwise great exterior shots. Clean all appliances, countertops, and bathroom fixtures. A sparkling clean home photographs dramatically better than a merely tidy one.
Exterior Preparation
Move all vehicles from the driveway and street in front of the house. Mow the lawn, trim hedges, and remove any garbage bins or garden hoses. Sweep the front walkway and porch. First impressions start with the exterior.
